Weekend Knitting- Cabled Mittens

Do you recall the mitten I “inexplicably” cast on for in the middle of my Periwinkle Socks?  I wisely set the mitt aside, but now it’s time to crank it out!

I would love to give these to my Mom as part of a thank you gift for coming up to stay with me during the week while Hubby is at work (his commute to the city is rather long).

The color is decidedly un-Noro, but I love knitting in neutrals and I had this skein of acrylic/lamb’s wool blend tucked away.  It’ll be easy for her to keep clean since she can throw it in the washing machine and dryer.

No Ella, yet.  Although she is causing me a great deal of pressure, pain, and cramping.  I can only hope she arrives before the weekend is over.  Until her grand entrance takes place, enjoy some random photos from off of my phone:

Periwinkle Socks- Finished

image

Tada!  All finished!

I have absolutely no details jotted down yet, so the Ravelry page looks quite empty at the moment.  I’ll try to get the gauge and size info on there tonight.

image

As usual, I loved knitting a Knitting Vintage Socks pattern.  Nancy Bush never disappoints.  This particular design was originally published in 1898 and beautifully rewritten by Nancy.

The easily memorized lace pattern and fancy ribbing.

The yarn is quite comfy and I’m curious as to how well they’ll wash and wear.  I’ll have to keep you updated on that.

Completely unblocked. I'm naughty.

WiP Wednesday- Periwinkle Socks

image

Okay, so it’s not the most flattering picture of my Periwinkle Socks. . . .

But I am determined to finish them today and didn’t feel like wasting my free time laying the sock out and finding the perfect light for photo taking.

I’ve just been to the doctor and was told I’m 3cm dilated and my cervix is very soft.  As in, once labor starts, it’ll probably go quite quickly.  Hence my desire to finish the socks.  Tonight.  Just in case.

Hat and Booties for Z- Finished

image

A simple hat and bootie set for my soon-to-be nephew, Zachary.  I modified the Knotted Newborn Hat pattern I just used, adding more stitches and working a K2, P1 rib.

image

image

I was a bit worried about odd striping or  pooling, but the color changes were, happily, nice and subtle.  I actually like it better than if it was a solid color.

image

My first pair of toe-up socks worked out well.  I really, really love Judy’s Magic Cast-On!  The toe looks fantastic.

image

I modified this pattern a little bit, too, adding 25 rows of K1, P1 ribbing so the booties have a folded down cuff.  It should stay on better and I like the look of it more than the original.

image

I’m not the best at short row heels, but they’ll get better looking with more practice.

Oh, and this happened down the street. The flames ended up all the way to the wires. Quite scary.
